How will camp make me a better runner?

Sub 5 Running Camp offers training unlike any other program. Training focuses on the whole person, and incorporates physical and mental training. Runners leave camp with a stronger knowledge of training techniques, running form, racing tactics, mental strength, confidence, motivation, and goal setting.

Campers have departed camp with rave reviews, noticably increased motivation and confidence, and a network of running friends. Camp Alumni have achieved impressive results. Sub 5 has trained several All-State Runners and State Champions. The majority of runners leave with the knowledge and strength to reach new personal records.

Is camp a week of intense training? Will I have time to relax?

Sub 5 Camp is a healthy mix of physical training, mental training, team building, and social activities. Morning distance runs and afternoon drills are intermixed with dips in the river, pool workouts, a low ropes course, a zipline across the river, yoga, mental training, skit night, bonfires, and of course food!

Past guest lectures have been about nutrition, picking running shoes, and becoming a college athlete.

What does "Mind Fit, Body Fit" mean?

"Mind Fit, Body Fit" is the philosophy that emphasizes mental strength and physical performance. A week at camp will encompass exercises and drills that focus on each aspect individually, and combined. Coach Janet Leet was known as one of the toughest mental competitors in the field, and she has developed this program to teach the same strengths to aspiring runners.

Can I bring my team to camp?

Camp has become a tradition for many girls' teams in Illinois and around the country. While you don't need your team to attend, it is an invaluable opportunity to train together, work on team building, and become closer. Teams that attend camp together will bunk together, and also take part in exclusive team building activities.

Please request your team as your cabin mates on your application.

No runner left behind! Sub 5 encourages complete teams to attend. Having trouble getting all your girls? Ask Janet for help.

I haven't been to camp before, and I don't know anyone. Will I have a place at camp?

Everyone has a place at camp! Runners will be in cabins of similar ages, and run in groups of similar abilities. Social activities will allow campers opportunity for interaction. Smaller group activities will allow you to share your story. While teams are welcome, Sub 5 is primarily individual runners.

Campers leave camp having met new friends for life. Runners usually stay in contact throughout the year, and often see friends from camp at cross country and track meets. New and old campers often can't wait to come back next year!
